Cannabidiol (CBD) is among the main extracts (cannabinoids) from the cannabis sativa plants. Generally, the cannabis plants have been used for hundreds of years for their health benefits. The two main compounds from the plant-Tetrahydrocannabidol (THC) and CBD, have been at the center of interest for many health specialists. While THC has psychoactive properties (alters the mind), CBD is non-psychoactive thus, users can consume it without any worry of getting high.

So in what ways can CBD be used for mental health?
Anxiety is a widespread problem that affects people across the globe. It is estimated that anxiety disorders affect 19.1% of adults in the US each year, which shows how it is a big issue. Fortunately, some studies have led to the findings that CBD may help ease symptoms of anxiety. From a 2015 study that analyzed the studies already done on the use of CBD for anxiety, it was seen that CBD had been effective for numerous anxiety conditions.
The conditions include panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and others. One thing, though, the authors note that despite CBD showing considerable potential, there was a need for more research to have an in-depth understanding of CBD’s therapeutic benefits and the long-term effects.
Given that CBD has calming effects, it may have the potential of managing sleeping disorders. Sleeping difficulties are a big problem despite sleep being a critical component of one’s mental health and overall wellbeing. This can be supported by the statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that show a third of US adults do not get the recommended hours of sleep each night.
Insufficient sleep is associated with problems like obesity, depression, diabetes type 2, and others. One study showed that people with sleeping issues had a better sleep after consuming CBD for a month. However, further research is necessary to bring out clearly the effect of CBD on sleep.

It has also emerged from other studies that CBD is effective at minimizing nightmares linked to PSTD.…Read More
